Moja ya kisingizio cha watu wengi kwenye kushindwa kufanya yale
wanayotaka kufanya kimekua ni muda. Muda unaonekana kuwa mfupi sana na
mambo ya kufanya yakiwa mengi. Hivyo tumekuwa tunatamani kama masaa ya
siku yangeongezwa ili tuweze kufanya zaidi.
Lakini ukweli ni kwamba, masaa ya siku hayataongezeka, ni yale yale
24. Na wale wanaofanikiwa sawa sawa na wanaoshindwa, wana masaa hayo
hayo kwa siku. Sasa kwa nini wachache wafanikiwe kwenye muda huo, wakati
wengi wanashindwa na kuona hawana muda?
Seneca analo jibu zuri sana kwetu kuhusu muda;
Life is long enough, and a sufficiently generous amount has been
given to us for the highest achievements if it were all well invested.
But when it is wasted in heedless luxury and spent on no good activity,
we are forced at last by death’s final constraint to realize that it has

short life but we make it short, and we are not ill-supplied but

owner it is squandered in a moment, but wealth however modest, if

Maisha ni marefu vya kutosha na muda wa kutosha tumepewa kwa kufikia
yale makubwa kama tutauwekeza muda huo vizuri. Lakini tunapopoteza muda
huo kwa anasa zisizo na maana na kushindwa kufanya yale mazuri, tunakuja
kustuka tumepoteza muda na maisha yetu pale tunapofikia kifo. Hivyo
basi, siyo kwamba tuna maisha mafupi, bali tunayafanya kuwa mafupi, siyo
kwamba muda ni mdogo, bali tunao mwingi mpaka tunaupoteza. Kama ambavyo
utajiri ukiwa kwenye mikono ya mtu asiye makini unapotea na ukiwa
kwenye mikono ya mtu makini unakua, ndivyo maisha yetu yalivyo, yanakua
kama yataendeshwa vizuri.

TENGENEZA NJIA , USIFUATE NJIA

Watu wengi wamekuwa wanashindwa kwenye maisha kwa sababu hawathubutu kufanya vitu vipya, badala yake wanaangalia kile ambacho tayari kimeshafanya na wao wanafanya. Hii ni kufuata njia, sasa unapochagua kufuata njia fulani, jua utafika kule ambapo njia hiyo imeelekea. Kama utafanya kile ambacho wengine wanafanya, utapata matokeo ambayo wanayapata.
Njia pekee ya kufanikiwa zaidi, ni kufanya mambo mapya, kufanya yale ambayo hakuna mwingine anayefanya, kutengeneza njia mpya, pale ambapo hakuna njia. Hili linatisha, kwa sababu unakuwa huna uhakika, nafasi ya kushindwa ni kubwa, lakini pia nafasi ya kufanikiwa ni kubwa zaidi.
Kwenye chochote unachochagua kufanya, acha kuangalia wengine wanafanya nini ili uige, badala yake angalia kipi muhimu kinachopaswa kufanya kisha kifanye kwa njia ambayo ni sahihi kwako kufanya na kwa wale unaowahudumia. Kwa namna hii utatengeneza njia mpya na wewe kama kiongozi wa njia hiyo utanufaika zaidi.
Rafiki, sindano za leo zimekuwa ndefu na kali, lakini kama utazifanyia kazi, hutabaki hapo ulipo. Sina kingine cha kuongeza zaidi ya kukukumbusha kanuni yetu muhimu ambayo ni MAARIFA SAHIHI + KUCHUKUA HATUA KUBWA = MAFANIKIO MAKUBWA. Maarifa ni hayo, kazi kwako kuchukua hatua ili ufanikiwe.

FANYA YALIYO NDANI YA UWEZO WAKO, USISUMBUKE NA YALIYO NJE YA UWEZO WAKO
Sisi binadamu huwa tunasumbuka na mambo mengi sana, lakini tukianza
kuyaangalia mambo hayo, mengi tunajisumbua nayo bure, kwa sababu yapo
nje ya uwezo wetu, hakuna chochote tunachoweza kufanya tukayabadili au
kuyaathiri.
Mambo yote yanayotokea kwenye maisha yetu tunaweza kuyagawa kwenye makundi mawili, yaliyo ndani ya uwezo wetu, haya ni yale ambayo tunaweza kuyaathiri, tunaweza kuyafanya kuwa bora zaidi. Na kuna yale ambayo yapo nje ya uwezo wetu, ambapo hatuna cha kufanya.
Baadhi ya vitu vipo ndani ya uwezo wetu na vingine vipo nje ya uwezo wetu. Vilivyo ndani ya uwezo wetu ni maoni yetu, fikra zetu, maamuzi yetu na matendo yetu, kwa kifupi yale yote ambayo sisi tunayafanya. Vitu vilivyo nje ya uwezo wetu ni miili yetu, mali zetu, sifa zetu na nafasi nyingine tunazopewa, kwa kifupi chochote ambacho hatufanyi sisi moja kwa moja, kipo nje ya uwezo wetu. Vitu vilivyo ndani ya uwezo wetu ni bure, huru na visivyo na ukomo, vilivyo nje ya uwezo wetu ni dhaifu, visivyo huru, vyenye ukomo na visivyo vyetu.
Kwa vyovyote vile, hupaswi kusumbuliwa na chochote, kwa sababu kama kitu kipo ndani ya uwezo wako basi unahitaji kuchukua hatua, na kama kipo ndani ya uwezo wako huna hatua ya kuchukua hivyo kubaliana nacho kama kilivyo au kipuuze.
Mambo yote yanayotokea kwenye maisha yetu tunaweza kuyagawa kwenye makundi mawili, yaliyo ndani ya uwezo wetu, haya ni yale ambayo tunaweza kuyaathiri, tunaweza kuyafanya kuwa bora zaidi. Na kuna yale ambayo yapo nje ya uwezo wetu, ambapo hatuna cha kufanya.
Baadhi ya vitu vipo ndani ya uwezo wetu na vingine vipo nje ya uwezo wetu. Vilivyo ndani ya uwezo wetu ni maoni yetu, fikra zetu, maamuzi yetu na matendo yetu, kwa kifupi yale yote ambayo sisi tunayafanya. Vitu vilivyo nje ya uwezo wetu ni miili yetu, mali zetu, sifa zetu na nafasi nyingine tunazopewa, kwa kifupi chochote ambacho hatufanyi sisi moja kwa moja, kipo nje ya uwezo wetu. Vitu vilivyo ndani ya uwezo wetu ni bure, huru na visivyo na ukomo, vilivyo nje ya uwezo wetu ni dhaifu, visivyo huru, vyenye ukomo na visivyo vyetu.
Kwa vyovyote vile, hupaswi kusumbuliwa na chochote, kwa sababu kama kitu kipo ndani ya uwezo wako basi unahitaji kuchukua hatua, na kama kipo ndani ya uwezo wako huna hatua ya kuchukua hivyo kubaliana nacho kama kilivyo au kipuuze.
ISHI KULINGANA NA MISINGI YA ASILI
Huwa tunayaona maisha yetu ni magumu na tuna mengi ya kukabiliana
nayo, lakini hebu fikiria jinsi ulimwengu unavyojiendesha. Fikiria jinsi
ambavyo sayari yetu ya dunia inalizunguka jua mwaka mzima, na kutupatia
majira ya mwaka. Fikiria jinsi sayari hii inajizungusha kwenye mhimili
wake kila siku na kutupatia usiku na mchana. Asili imeyapangilia mambo
yake ambayo yanajiendesha vizuri.
Sisi pia tunapaswa kuishi kwa msingi wa asili, kujua kile ambacho tunapaswa kufanya, kujipanga kukifanya na kukifanya kwa ubora na msimamo kama ambavyo asili inafanya mambo yake. Kwa kuishi kulingana na asili, hata matatizo yetu yanayotusumbua yanaonekana ni madogo sana ukilinganisha na jinsi ulimwengu mzima unavyojiendesha.
Kazi za Mungu ndiyo zinatupa sisi riziki, na kazi za asili hazitofautiani na asili yenyewe. Kila kitu kinatokana na asili. Kila kitu ambacho ni muhimu na kinachohitajika na ulimwengu mzima kinatokana na asili. Kila kinachotokana na asili na kila kinachoitunza asili ni kizuri kwa kila sehemu ya asili. Mabadiliko ya kipengele chochote kwenye asili, ndiyo yanaufanya ulimwengu kuwa kama ulivyo.
Sisi pia tunapaswa kuishi kwa msingi wa asili, kujua kile ambacho tunapaswa kufanya, kujipanga kukifanya na kukifanya kwa ubora na msimamo kama ambavyo asili inafanya mambo yake. Kwa kuishi kulingana na asili, hata matatizo yetu yanayotusumbua yanaonekana ni madogo sana ukilinganisha na jinsi ulimwengu mzima unavyojiendesha.
Kazi za Mungu ndiyo zinatupa sisi riziki, na kazi za asili hazitofautiani na asili yenyewe. Kila kitu kinatokana na asili. Kila kitu ambacho ni muhimu na kinachohitajika na ulimwengu mzima kinatokana na asili. Kila kinachotokana na asili na kila kinachoitunza asili ni kizuri kwa kila sehemu ya asili. Mabadiliko ya kipengele chochote kwenye asili, ndiyo yanaufanya ulimwengu kuwa kama ulivyo.
JENGA MAHUSIANO BORA KATIKA MAISHA YAKO
Sisi binadamu ni viumbe wa kijamii, hatuwezi kuishi kwa kujitegemea
wenyewe kwa kila kitu. Hivyo mahusiano yetu na wengine ni moja ya vitu
muhimu sana kwetu ili kuweza kuwa na maisha bora.
Falsafa ya ustoa inatufundisha jinsi ya kutengeneza mahusiano bora na wale wanaotuzunguka kwa kuimarisha mahusiano yetu na ushirikiano kwenye mambo mbalimbali.
Njia bora ya kuimarisha mahusiano na ushirikiano ni kuangalia tabia nzuri zilizopo ndani ya wengine badala ya kuangalia mabaya pekee. Pia kuangalia namna ya kushirikiana na siyo kupingana.
Marcus ana maneno mazuri ya kutuambia kuhusu mahusiano;
Say to yourself first thing in the morning: I shall meet with people who are meddling, ungrateful, violent, treacherous, envious, and unsociable. They are subject to these faults because of their ignorance of what is good and bad. But I have recognised the nature of the good and seen that it is the right, and the nature of the bad and seen that it is the wrong, and the nature of the wrongdoer himself, and seen that he is related to me, not because he has the same blood or seed, but because he shares in the same mind and portion of divinity. So I cannot be harmed by any of them, as no one will involve me in what is wrong. Nor can I be angry with my relative or hate him. JIJENGEE TABIA NJEMA KATIKA MAISHA YAKO
Tabia njema ni moja ya misingi muhimu sana kwenye falsafa ya ustoa.
Kadiri unavyojijengea na kuishi kwa tabia njema, ndivyo
unavyojitengenezea maisha bora na yenye furaha wakati wote. Tabia njema
ndiyo zao la furaha. Kwenye ustoa, tabia njema ni pale unapoishi na
kusimamia yale yenye maana kwako na kwa wengine, na kuachana na yale
yasiyo na maana.
Kwenye ustoa kuna tabia njema kuu nne;
HEKIMA; Ubora katika kufikiri na kufanya maamuzi.
UJASIRI; Uwezo wa kukabiliana na hatari kwa usahihi.
HAKI; Ubora katika mahusiano yetu na wengine.
KIASI; Uwezo wa kudhibiti hisia na tamaa.
Marcus ana haya ya kutuambia kuhusu tabia njema;
If you can find anything in human life better than justice, truthfulness, selfcontrol, courage […] turn to it with all your heart and enjoy the supreme good that you have found […] but if you find all other things to be trivial and valueless in comparison with virtue, give no room to anything else, since, once you turn towards that and divert from your proper path, you will no longer be able without inner conflict to give the highest honour to what is properly good. It is not right to set up as a rival to the rational and social good anything alien to its nature, such as the praise of the many, or positions of power, wealth, or enjoyment of pleasures. – Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 3.6
Kama unaweza kupata kitu bora kwenye maisha ya mtu zaidi ya haki, ukweli, kujidhibiti na ujasiri, kishikilie sana kitu hicho. Lakini kama utakuta vitu vingine ni visivyo na maana ukilinganisha na tabia njema, usitoe nafasi kwa kitu kingine bali tabia hizo njema. Kwa sababu utakapoacha njia yako sahihi hutaweza tena kuzingatia yale ambayo ni mazuri kwako. Siyo sahihi kuleta upinzani kati ya fikra sahihi na vitu vya nje kama sifa kutoka kwa wengine, nafasi za madaraka, utajiri na kufurahia raha.
Kwenye ustoa kuna tabia njema kuu nne;
HEKIMA; Ubora katika kufikiri na kufanya maamuzi.
UJASIRI; Uwezo wa kukabiliana na hatari kwa usahihi.
HAKI; Ubora katika mahusiano yetu na wengine.

Lakini kama utakuta vitu vingine ni visivyo na maana ukilinganisha na tabia njema, usitoe nafasi kwa kitu kingine bali tabia hizo njema. Kwa sababu utakapoacha njia yako sahihi hutaweza tena kuzingatia yale ambayo ni mazuri kwako. Siyo sahihi kuleta upinzani kati ya fikra sahihi na vitu vya nje kama sifa kutoka kwa wengine, nafasi za madaraka, utajiri na kufurahia raha.
FANYA KILICHO SAHIHI, LAKINI USITEGEMEE CHOCHOTE.
Moja ya sababu zinazopelekea wengi kukosa furaha ni kufanya vitu
ambavyo wanajua siyo sahihi, lakini kwa sababu wengine wanafanya au
wanawategemea wafanye, basi wanafanya ili kuwaridhisha wengine. Hatari
nyingine kubwa ni watu kufanya kitu wakitegemea matokeo fulani yatokee.
Yaani unachukua hatua, ukitegemea matokeo fulani ili uwe na furaha. Hii
ni njia ya kujitengenezea kushindwa na kujinyima furaha.
Cicero ana haya ya kutuambia kuhusu kufanya na kutegemea;
The wise person does nothing that he could regret, nothing against his will, but does everything honourably, consistently, seriously, and rightly; he anticipates nothing as if it is bound to happen, but is shocked by nothing when it does happen …. and refers everything to his own judgement, and stands by his own decisions. I can conceive of nothing which is happier that this. – Cicero, Tusculan Disputations 5.81
Mtu mwenye hekima hafanyi chochote atakachoweza kujutia, hafanyi chochote kinyume na matakwa yake bali anafanya kila kitu kwa heshima, msimamo, umakini na usahihi; hategemei chochote kitatokea kwa yeye kufanya, lakini pia hashangazwi na chochote kinachotokea, na anarejea kila kitu kwa maamuzi yake mwenyewe na kusimamia maamuzi hayo.
